ABC Sports Michael Wilbon serves as Master of Ceremony and 670 The Score’s Dan McNeil serves as local host for the Sports Radio 25th Anniversary Celebration! The evening will benefit Parent Heart Watch and features comedian Bobby Collins (from VH1’s “Stand-Up Spotlight” and tours with Cher, Julio Iglesias, Dolly Parton and Tony Bennett), Former Chicago Bear Steve “Mongo” McMichael, surprise roasters, and awards to the Class of 2012 Inductees into the Sports Radio Hall-of-Fame.
When it comes to sports radio and its rabid fans, seemingly nothing’s off-limits – providing a lively listening experience which comes to life at the first-ever Featuring comedy, live music, the greatest bloopers over the last 25 years and more.
The evening’s festivities, paying tribute to the 25th Anniversary of the 24-hour sports radio format – which began in 1987 when WFAN-AM (New York) began broadcasting around-the-clock sports coverage – include the announcement of the Class of 2012 Inductees into the Sports Radio Hall-of-Fame, honoring the country’s best among sports radio’s personalities, programs and stations. The Sports Radio 25th Anniversary Celebration sponsored by Geico Insurance, benefits Parent Heart Watch, a Glencoe, IL-based national non-profit organization committed to protecting youth from Sudden Cardiac Arrest, the leading cause of death among young athletes.
Entertainment provided by 30-year comedy veteran Bobby Collins; live music by Chicago-based musicians the Chicago Catz; special appearances by former Bears defensive tackle Steve “Mongo” McMichael, Mr. Skin of MrSkin.com and other surprise guests; plus sports radio bloopers, behind-the-scenes insights and hilarious anecdotes from sports radio’s leading commentators, producers and managers.
