The beautiful auditorium complete with murals above the stage and on the ceiling, are components of an amazing building called "the Wonder Theatre of the World" when it opened on October 26, 1921. The 3,553 seat auditorium is seven stories high, more than one half of a city block wide, and nearly as long.
The legendary Chicago Theatre is a designated Chicago landmark, which features a six story high marquee
"C-H-I-C-A-G-O". A symbol of State Street and Chicago, the sign and marquee are landmarks in themselves, as is the 29-rank Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ. With its 3,335-seat three level theatre, exquisite grand lobby and mezzanine with the grand staircase patterned after the Paris Opera House, to its private 250-seat downstairs theatre, every event is a brilliant occasion. The grand lobby, modeled after the Royal Chapel at Versailles, is five stories high and surrounded by gallery promenades at the mezzanine and balcony levels and magnificent chandeliers. The grand staircase is patterned after that of the Paris Opera House and ascends to the various levels of the Great Balcony.
In the 1920s The DOWNSTAIRS THEATRE hosted a live radio station, WIBO were patrons were able to view through the glass here the radio personalities, Eddie and Fannie Cavanagh during their afternoon broadcasts. Over 85 years have passed and this intimate space is still making history with its events.
